The Birmingham Level loops and Main Line

Once on the Birmingham Level, we "did the loops" rather than keeping to the main line - this is the Boatyard on the Icknield loop. The weather was not at its best!

The small cluster of brick buildings and the quayside crane add character to the scene - despite the rain.

On the Soho loop we passed the entrance to Hockley Basin which now serves as a boat mooring.

....... and then by Winson Green Prison, formerly a mental institution. As we passed under Asylum Bridge - considering the weather - we wondered if this was really where we belonged. Nigel looks happy with his lot!

Once out on the main line proper we made steady progress and soon passed under the Engine Arm - which is on the Wolverhampton level.

We finally passed through Netherton Tunnel - third time this week! - and moored at Windmill End. After dinner we spent the evening in The Dry Dock, the bar of which is enclosed in part of a wooden narrow-boat. The pub is also famous for its Cow Pie (Desparate Dan style complete with horns!).
