The Rochdale Canal

In September 2000 we hired Gloucester, a 57ft narrowboat from Shire Cruisers of Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire. The Yorkshire side of this broad canal had only recently been restored to navigation. From Sowerby Bridge we took the Rochdale Canal which turns through a 180 turn to the first three locks before disappearing into the newly constructed Tewl Lane Tunnel to emerge into the depths of the 19' deep Tewl lane lock - the deepest in the country.

So join us in our journey through the Pennines to the then limit of navigation on the summit level of the canal.

It is hoped that pictures of the Lancashire side of the canal will appear in due course - but not yet!
